It is my distinct honor and priviledge to present the Awardees of the Stephen Oluwole Awokoya Foundation For Science Education Postgraduate Scholarship.

Since the inauguration of the Foundation in 1995, The Stephen Oluwole Awokoya Foundation for Science Education has made a yearly award of postgraduate Scholarship for studies in the areas of science and science education.

Over the years the number of applicants has increased, and this year we had the largest number of highly qualified candidates.

The discipline of the candidates this year ranged from the pure sciences to engineering and medicine.

The process for the award of the scholarship starts with the applications by the candidates.

Each application has to be supported or nominated by a Dean of one of the various faculties or a head of department related to Science or Science Education at a tertiary institution in Nigeria.

The Board of Trustees of the Stephen Oluwole Awokoya Foundation for Science Education deliberates over the nominations and then decides on the winners based on objective assessment, seeking excellence in educational performance and stated long-term objective of the candidates. The postgraduate scholarship award covers tuition and board, and it is of the order of N=50,000 per student per annum.

It is renewable each year for a maximum of three years provided the awardees maintain a good record of performance as attested to by the authorities of the university he or she attends.

This year, we have increased the number of scholarship award to three.

The first awardee for the Stephen Oluwole Awokoya Foundation for Science Education in the new millenium is

Mr. Oluniyi Ogundiran

Mr. Ogundiran, please come up to the rostrum.

Mr. Ogundiran attended St. Gabriel's Secondary Commercial School in Mokola, Ibadan , Oyo State , where he obtained four distinctions in his O'level examinations.

He later attended the University of Ibadan where he obtained a first class honours degree in mathematics.

Mr. Ogundiran is being awarded a scholarship in order to pursue a Masters degree course in Mathematics

The second awardee is

Mr. Muyiwa Samuel Adaramola.

Mr. Adaramola, please come up to the rostrum.

Mr. Adaramola is 32 years old. He attended St. Thomas Anglican Primary School and St. Thomas Aquinas College, both in Akure, Ondo State .

He got five distinctions in his O'level exams, and later went to the Obafemi Awolowo University.

At the Obafemi Awolowo University , he studied Mechanical Engineering, and graduated with a first class honours degree.

He had a grade point average of 4.5 out of a maximum of 5.0.

Mr. Adaramola is currently an academic staff in the department of mechanical engineering, faculty of technology, at the Obafemi Awolowo University .

Mr. Adaramola will be pursuing a Masters degree course in Mechanical Engineering.

The third awardee this year is

Dr. Olubukunola Olukunle, a medical doctor.

Dr Olukunle, please come up to the rostrum.

Dr. Olukunle is a 1999 graduate of the University of Ibadan .

She attended the Staff School of the University of Ibadan for her primary schooling and the International School of the university of Ibadan , where she got seven distinctions in her O'levels.

Furthermore she was the best graduating student in the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery examination in her class.

Dr. Olukunle will be pursuing a fellowship program in Paediatrics.
